  • 45 Dividend Champions With Yields Higher Than Long-Term Treasuries

    (Wed, 21 Jul 2010 11:32:39 -0400)

    David Van Knapp submits:

Today, 10-year Treasuries are yielding 2.99% and 30-year Treasuries are yielding 3.99%. If you are a long-term holder looking for income, that’s a long time to lock in your money at those yields. At the end of the term, you’ll get your principal back, but it will be shrunken by inflation. If you are looking to buy and sell these for profit, you will need to be very nimble, for as future Treasury yields go up, their principal value will go down. That is the inevitable see-saw relationship between the yields and prices of bonds.

    Strong arguments...

  • The 14 Highest Yielding Dividend Champions

    (Fri, 02 Jul 2010 16:02:37 -0400)

    David Van Knapp submits:

The U.S. Dividend Champions List—produced by the DRiP Investing Resource Center—is the best compilation I know of domestic stocks that have raised their dividends for the past 25 years. I think it is superior to the more famous Dividend Aristocrats List from S&P. Its methodology seems more thorough, it is not restricted to stocks on the S&P 500 index, and its rules are well explained and observed religiously. It is a model of a well-documented, fact-based research tool. The Dividend Champions list is produced by David Fish, who I am happy to...

  • SEC: Well Meaning Gang That Can't Shoot Straight

    (Fri, 19 Mar 2010 03:17:06 -0400)

    Joseph L. Shaefer submits:

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) bills itself as “The Investor's Advocate.”As a matter of fact, on their website they title the page about themselves with that byline, followed by “How the SEC Protects Investors, Maintains Market Integrity, and Facilitates Capital Formation.”If that is their intent, then we must consider them 'The Well-Meaning Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight.'

The SEC certainly enjoyed noble beginnings, in 1933, in response to the abuses that led to The Great Crash. The SEC was to be a nonpartisan and independent-of-outside-influence regulatory agency...

  • Community Bank Stocks with Dividend Yields Higher than 5%

    (Sun, 31 Jan 2010 10:14:04 -0500)

    David Hunkar submits:

Unlike many other countries, there are thousands of small community banks in the U.S. These banks have a smaller foot print when compared to the regional or national banks such as Bank of America (BAC), Fifth Third Bank (FITB), U.S. Bank (USB), etc. However they are usually know their customers better and maintain close relationships with the local small businesses and consumers.

Some community banks operate in just a few counties and have very few branches....

  • 41 Stocks - Increased Dividends for Over a Decade

    (Mon, 25 Jan 2010 04:57:56 -0500)

    Dan Pritch submits:

With the market taking a breather from the pivot bottom in March, it may be worthwhile taking a look at dividend stocks with a strong track record of increasing dividends year in and year out regardless of what the economic conditions are. While other high yield options exist such as corporate bonds and muni bonds, the ability to increase dividends through thick and thin demonstrates that these outfits have the cash on hand and discipline to weather virtually any storm moving forward. With the prospect of future dividend increases annually, the underlying...

  • Cramer's Lightning Round - How Keurig Changed My Life (1/12/10)

    (Wed, 13 Jan 2010 06:46:31 -0500)

    Miriam Metzinger submits:

Stocks discussed on the lightning round session of Jim Cramer's Mad Money TV Program, Tuesday January 12.

    Bullish Calls:

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR): "You are talking about my Keurig… remember the caller… this is a great one, you will love this, you will absolutely love this… so a caller asked me about if I like the Keurig, I do not know jack, so people say you moron, that is Green Mountain coffee… it is a little cup...

  • Reinstate Glass-Steagall ? Now

    (Tue, 29 Dec 2009 08:07:07 -0500)

    Joseph L. Shaefer submits:

Once upon a time, banks did banking and brokers made people broker and ne’er the twain did meet.Ditto for insurers and S&Ls and all the other sub-sectors Wall Street has now euphemistically titled the “financial services” industry, an oxymoron akin to “airline food” or “Congressional ethics.”

Sometimes I find a particularly well-written article on a subject and say, “I couldn’t have written it any better myself.”Such was the case with a recent article by Sy Harding of Street Smart Report (see his free daily blog at www.streetsmartpost.com). I’ve quoted much of it below,...

  • Nine Dividend Stocks Working Hard During the Holidays

    (Fri, 27 Nov 2009 08:08:20 -0500)

    Dividends4Life submits:

As we officially head into the holiday season, many of us in the U.S. did not have to go into work today in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Though not much is happening at the office, there are still many working for me today. Not people, but my Dividend Stocks. It is great to know while I am relaxing with family and watching the big game, those stocks are hard at work providing me an additional income stream.

Several companies this week provided their investors a Thanksgiving bonus...

  • Eight Stocks with Positive Dividend Momentum

    (Fri, 27 Nov 2009 07:16:49 -0500)

    Dobromir Stoyanov submits:

A body in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted on by an outside force. The following dividend payers kept the dividend momentum coming, by raising distributions to shareholders. What is particularly interesting is the fact that most of them have raised distributions consistently for more than one or two decades each. This is essentially what successful dividend growth investing is all about – finding a dividend grower in the early stages that keeps paying increasing amounts of dividends each and every year for years to come.

The companies which raised distributions include:
