  • Omnivision Technologies: A Strong Stock Amongst Strong Peers

    (Thu, 17 Jun 2010 04:28:53 -0400)

    Joshua Hayes submits:

Omnivision Technologies (OVTI) is a blast from the past for me as it was one of the fundamentally strong new stocks that put in an incredible move during the 2003 powerful bull market. It was a great stock with great fundamentals back in 2003 and once again it is a well performing stock with great fundamentals.

Omnivision Technologies designs digital/analog image sensors for compact cameras used in mobile phones, notebook computers, and web cams and the demand for these products are very heavy right now and can completely be seen...

  • Russell 2000's Most Attractive Stocks

    (Mon, 26 Apr 2010 12:44:32 -0400)

    Value Expectations submits:

The Applied Finance Group's (AFG’s) valuation techniques have proven successful at identifying mispriced securities. Clients use the tools built by AFG to identify investment opportunities in order to outperform their benchmarks. Normally when searching for attractive investment opportunities, AFG uses, along with Valuation, a combination of proprietary variables that include Economic Performance (EM), Management Quality, and Earnings Quality. Although our valuation variable (Value Score) works best in concert with our other proprietary variables, AFG’s valuation metric also works well on its own.

For those investor’s who focus on small to mid...

  • Big Buzz All About 3D: Who Will Benefit?

    (Wed, 13 Jan 2010 01:44:42 -0500)

    shlomi cohenShlomi Cohen submits:

At the forefront of new inventions and new product launches for 2010, the world's largest electronics show, the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, ended this week. If going in everyone was talking about advanced telephones, on the way out the big buzz was all about 3D.

With or without connection to the dizzying success of the movie Avatar, the first televisions with 3D processors will hit the market this year already. Together with the special glasses that will be included, we will be able to watch three dimensional...

  • Nine Companies Added to Potential Activist Targets

    (Mon, 05 Oct 2009 04:48:29 -0400)

    The Manual of Ideas submits:

The latest issue of 10x45 Bargain Hunter (.pdf), published on October 4th, presents the results of a proprietary Manual of Ideas stock screen for potential activist targets. The list includes 45 companies, nine of which are new additions to the list. In order for a company to join the list, it must have a strong balance sheet that could be recapitalized or liquidated to achieve activist value creation; and insiders must own less than 20% of the shares, implying an inability to exercise voting control over the company. Here are the newcomers to...

  • Is It Profit Taking Time for Chip Stocks?

    (Tue, 12 May 2009 16:22:55 -0400)

    Eric Savitz (Barron's) submits:

Has the time come to take profit in chip stocks? The sector has been on a tear, with the SOX up 45% since the November bottom. Citigroup’s Glen Yeung wrote a note this morning which pointed out that “investors are naturally considering taking profits,” and that that this will likely be the case in the near term.

Adding fuel to the profit-taking theory, Yeung says, is a peaking ratio of upward/total earnings estimate revisions, and “seasonal trading patterns that typically point to some retrenchment” in the June quarter....

  • Chips and Dips; Apple's Mysterious Increased iPhone Order

    (Wed, 01 Apr 2009 02:51:26 -0400)

    shlomi cohenShlomi Cohen submits:

The Semiconductor HOLDRs (AMEX:SMH) trust issued receipts are up over 10% for the year. Lazard Capital Markets analyst Daniel Amir explains that while a rebound is felt among chip companies, it is due more to increased production after inventories emptied out, and less to significant strengthening demand among sales chains.

Amir estimates that if demand won’t improve ahead of the back-to-school season during the summer, and holiday purchases toward the end of the year, we’re likely to return to the situation at the end...
