Currently 32 banks are represented in this index under the state commercial banks category.

At the end of each trading week, Hillbent scans for the equity market for potential anomalies which exhibit extremely oversold and overbought conditions. From a contrarian perspective, these lists may also serve as a precursor to changes in institutional sentiment and underlying fundamentals.

As a bit of an experiment, I decided to examine insider activity at a large group of commercial banks.I appraised over 230 different commercial banks for this survey and gathered my list of banks off of Motley Fool's tagged “commercial banks”.I did not examine some of the banks with extremely small market caps and I only examined a handful of banks that were not on this list, so it is by no means exhaustive, but it is a fairly large sample that should provide some ideas and insight.
I want to give a hat tip to TraderMark over at Fundmymutualfund.com for assembling this list. 2008 was a chaotic year, to say the least, and with indexes down huge on the year, there weren't many rays of light in the abyss known as the 2008 stock market.

Bear market bounce. In a stunning turnaround, markets recovered from an early drop on Thursday and rallied to a strong close as bargain hunters got back into the market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, which fell below 8,000 at its intraday low, gained 552.59 points and closed up 6.7% to 8,835.25. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq, both of which touched five-year lows during the trading session, closed up 6.9% and 6.5% respectively. Many investors hope yesterday's rally will prove late-October's stock market lows to be the trough of the bear...
