  • America the Beautiful ... Investment Destination

    (Fri, 02 Jul 2010 16:23:55 -0400)

    carl delfeldCarl T. Delfeld submits:

Since I do quite a bit of writing and speaking on investment opportunities in international markets, some may get the impression that I am not very keen on prospects for investing in American stocks. But it appears that as we head into the 4th of July weekend, I have more confidence in America’s future than most. A recent poll by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs indicated that 55% of those polled believe that the U.S. will be equaled or surpassed as a...

    Hickey and Walters (Bespoke) submit:

On April 6th, we highlighted that twelve of the 200 or so key ETFs we track were trading more than 10% above their 50-day moving averages, which is a large number relative to normal readings. At the moment, 50 of the key ETFs we track (roughly 25%) are more than 10% below their 50-days! If twelve is a lot on the overbought side, what is 50 on the oversold side? Spain (Carl T. Delfeld submits:

Coming back from speaking at the Money Show in Las Vegas last week, it occurred to me that many attendees, by chasing the best stock and ETF picks, are barking up the wrong tree. There is an opportunity for advisors to bring these independent-mined investors in as fee-based clients. While at the MoneyShow, I did an interview with Karen Gibbs on several topics, including “Get Organized and Get Ahead.”

With one thousand ETFs now trading on U.S. markets, most investors, and I...

    (Tue, 23 Mar 2010 15:08:33 -0400)

    gary gordonGary Gordon submits:

Not every investment will make you money. And even those that do… they may not have been worthy of the ETF risks you are taking.

  • Like David and Goliath: The Global GNP 30 vs. the DJIA ETF

    (Fri, 19 Mar 2010 04:29:29 -0400)

    carl delfeldCarl T. Delfeld submits:

The Dow Jones Industrial Average, founded in 1896, has a proud heritage, but is its basket of 30 American companies relevant today? What about the exchange-traded fund or ETF that tracks the Dow, the Diamond Trust Series (DIA) that has amassed 9 billion in assets?

On April 1, 2005, I created an alternative to the Diamond ETF that I call the Chartwell Global GNP 30. Like the...
