Carnac the Magnificent has answered the question in the last envelope in the independent middleware market: Progress Software (PRGS) will acquire Iona (IONA). My prediction that it would most likely be another so-called closed source software provider pairing up with an open source provider turned out to be correct. My prediction that it would be IBM (IBM), Sun (JAVA), TIBCO (Dana Gardner submits:
Financial institutions face competitive pressure to automate processes and move toward straight-through processing [STP], while ensuring compliance with multiple messaging standards. IONA Technologies (IONA) Wednesday released a set of enhancements to Artix Data Services designed to reduce risk exposure and operational costs.
The latest release from the Dublin, Ireland-based IONA includes a comprehensive implementation of SWIFTNet MT Standards Release 2008, a new free online validation service, and new offerings for over-the-counter [OTC] derivatives processing and payments STP.
NAND market in trouble after Apple slashes order estimate. iSuppli cut its global NAND flash outlook to single-digits, down from 27% revenue growth, due to waning consumer confidence amid a U.S. subprime mortgage crisis. "Unless the economy recovers vigorously later this year, last year's DRAM market disaster could be repeated in NAND this year," it says. iSuppli notes Apple (AAPL), the world's number-three NAND buyer for its flash-based iPods, slashed its NAND order forecast significantly.

On-demand business applications provider Workday has acquired SOA and enterprise integration middleware vendor Cape Clear Software, the companies announced Wednesday.
The acquisition is novel in several respects. A middleware software vendor is being absorbed by a software as a service (SaaS)
provider to expand its enterprise solutions role -- not to sell the
software itself -- demonstrating that the future of software is
increasingly in the services. It also shows that integration as a
function is no longer an after-thought to business applications use --
it is fundamental to any applications activities, be they on-premises,
online, or both....

Sun-MySQL was enthusiastic), and now that we?ve had time to crunch the
